We take your concerns with all forms of AI extremely seriously. Please read further if you want to understand our position on AI and how we use it at Flashbook.

As stewards of your art, we take the protection of your digital rights, intellectual property, and your personal information extremely seriously.
At Flashbook, we use AI for two specific purposes: to help our artists tag the style and imagery of their photos, and to ensure that uploaded photos actually contain a tattoo in them, as a sort of content moderation tool.
That said, with the constant stories in the media of AI companies using unlicensed or scraped images to train their models, we deeply understand the trepidation some artists have about AI.
To allay some of those fears, we wanted to outline how we use AI here, and make it clear that we will never partner with or use any AI model in which we do not have an explicit guarantee from the provider that your uploaded images will not be used to train their models. Period.
We currently use OpenAI and their API to perform our image classification. As per their Enterprise privacy document, they explicitly state in their "General FAQ":
Does OpenAI train its models on my business data?
[...] we do not use your business data for training our models [...]
We use their API to perform our image classification, and as such, this means that according to their stated policy, they will not use the data we send to them (your art) for training their models.
Additionally, to ensure that they do not make surreptitious changes to their policy without you or us knowing about it, we check this policy every hour to ensure that it has not changed. If they update so much as the punctuation in this document, we immediately and automatically disable all AI site-wide until we have a chance to review the changes and ensure that they continue to align with their original policy of not using your art for training their models.
If after reading all of this, you still have any questions or concerns, please email us at: [email protected] and we would be happy to chat with you.
Thanks, JT and Steve
